In December 2006, Dr. Robert C. Griggs ended his tenure as the fourth Editor-in-Chief of Neurology, completing a distinguished decade in this role. During the Griggs era, the journal underwent monumental growth. Manuscript submissions increased from less than 2,000 to almost 5,000 per year. Neurology is now published in seven international editions (Polish, Italian, Japanese, Turkish, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean), and more are under development. Indeed, international submissions now represent a majority of the papers sent for review. Since 1999 Neurology has been published twice monthly, and in the last 6 years a superb online journal has been refined. In February 2003, Neurology transitioned to a Web-based manuscript submission and peer-review tracking system. In the final quarter of 2006, the entire content of the journal dating to 1951 was made available online. Dr. Griggs launched many successful initiatives including In This Issue: Highlights and Commentary (we will shorten this feature and rename it “This week in Neurology”), CME, the International Newsletter, Patient Page, Resident and Fellow Section, Expedited E-Pub, NeuroImages including Video NeuroImages, and Reflections: Neurology and the Humanities. The journal has grown to be the most widely read and highly cited peer-reviewed journal of neurology, and this will be featured as a tagline in 2007. Dr. Griggs is the epitome of commitment to his role and an unmatchable model for those who are called upon to multitask at the highest level. Submission specifications:
- Submissions must be < 200 words with < 5 references. Reference 1 must be the article on which you are commenting.
- Submissions should not have more than 5 authors. (Exception: original author replies can include all original authors of the article)
- Submit only on articles published within 6 months of issue date.
- Do not be redundant. Read any comments already posted on the article prior to submission.
- Submitted comments are subject to editing and editor review prior to posting.
