In the 6-month interval from October 1, 2011, through March 31, 2012, 2,293 new and 695 revised manuscripts were received at Neurology®, compared to 2,223 new and 641 revised manuscripts during the same period in 2010–2011. We received 4,076 peer reviews during this period (as compared to 3,870 during the same period in the previous year). The average time from submission to first decision for papers chosen for review remained at 33 days. Only a minority of the papers submitted can be accepted for publication. Please continue to make specific comments in your reviews regarding uniqueness of study populations, novel methods, studies that are especially educational, or new strategies for diagnosing and treating neurologic disease. Specific comments are invaluable in helping us reach decisions regarding which articles we believe will most benefit our readers in their practices. We are extremely grateful to you for your dedication in turning reviews around quickly.
Many reviewers also review manuscripts for the Resident & Fellow Section of Neurology. The next generation of neurologists and researchers benefits greatly as a result of the feedback provided by reviewers of these manuscripts.
We invite you to see our recently posted Information for Reviewers on the www.neurology.org Web site. This document contains information on expectations of reviewers regarding confidentiality, timeliness, and reviewer conflicts of interest. It also provides instructions for formatting the comments to editors and authors to make communication with authors as effective as possible.
If you would like to do more reviews or if you have never reviewed for Neurology but are interested in doing so, please e-mail us at journal@neurology.org, describing your credentials and expertise in the areas in which you are qualified to review.
