In patients with Parkinson disease (PD), cognitive decline is common and negatively affects quality of life.1 The mechanisms underlying cognitive decline in PD are heterogeneous, and while Lewy body pathology appears to be the main cause of cognitive decline in most, other pathologies such as β-amyloidopathy contribute in at least some patients.2 Currently, therapies that effectively slow cognitive decline by targeting underlying pathologies remain elusive. Therefore, there is growing interest in identifying treatment strategies that can be readily applied.
