Seven of the eight showed significant and sustained improvement. The patients exhibited few side effects of steroid therapy, and none manifested neurologic deterioration after institution of the therapy. Since anticholines-terase medications fail to benefit most patients with ocular myasthenia and since these agents reportedly have long-term undesirable effects on the neuromuscular junction, oral prednisone is proposed as an alternative therapy for ocular myasthenia.
