By histochemical and ultrastructural studies, biopsy of rectal mucosa revealed many abnormal macrophages that were filled with fucose-rich granules, and electronmicroscopic examination showed several types of characteristic inclusions in the endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and Schwann's cells.
